Kismet events have ranged from intimate events of 40 people, to 180 people -people that you could reach through your work at our events!

Al Amir Lebanese Restaurant on Greenville is now offering FREE bellydance lessons....starting June 4th

Join us at Al Amir Greenville on Wednesday nights starting June 4th for FREE bellydance lessons. Instruction will be provided by Yeli, Tamra Henna and Sa'diyya, all house dancers at Al Amir and dance instructors in the DFW area.

This is a great opportunity to bring a friend or relative out that is interested in bellydance but not ready to take the leap to classes yet. This is also a great night out for anyone with a little shimmy in their hips! We will offer 45 minute to 1 hour lessons that will change each week. We will start with the basics and see what happens! Since each week is something different so you can jump in at anytime. It's like a bellydance buffet!

Classes will begin at 8:30 in the club area of Al Amir and we will provide hip scarves for everyone until they are gone. Everyone will have the opportunity to practice what they have learned as we open up the dance floor to everyone while the DJ spins some great music.

After the classes, everyone is invited to stick around and enjoy a professional performance by one of our dancers.

No purchase is necessary to join the class or watch the performance but you may want to relax with a hookah in the club or try the Chicken Shwarma and the yummy hummus!

This week Yeli will be starting us off with lessons on June 4th at 8:30pm. The performance will actually take place BEFORE the class this time. Show time around 8pm. So come early for the performance and stay for the class!

Please join us on the 24th and welcome our featured troupe Just Fabulous Belly Dance as well as our other beautiful performers who will be gracing us with performances. We will be featuring two musical treats: Wind & Fingers will entertain us before the show starts and It Is What It Is will drum us through the first intermission.
We have a full load of exciting vendors lined up and troupe Arani will be selling concessions to help raise money for their troupe. This will be one heck of a night!

Want to volunteer a little time and help the community? We always need volunteers to help set up chairs, tables, run the box office, help with dancer check-in, etc. Please email dallaskismet@gmail.com to volunteer.

DfW community question!

Hey all,
We are trying to comtemplate the remainder of the 2008 Kismet FtW location. At our last location we had it at the Bob Duncan Center in Arlington vs. our regular gig at Arts 5th avenue in Fort Worth.
FOr those that have been to both or know about them which do you prefer?
Below are some pros and cons of each:
Bob Duncan center
pro - raised stage
pro - better parking
pro - nice facility
con - in Arlington (for FtW dancers)
con - ceiling is low
con - stage entrance only through the middle of the crowd
Arts 5th
pro - close to "home"
pro - larger stage
pro - stage entrance from the side or through the middle
con - parking minimal
con - stage not raised
THere are some other pros and cons from a business standpoint but given that those are equal which do you as a dancer prefer?!
Trying to make our FtW venue better for you all! :-)

I am trying to put together a presentation dedicated to the diversity of dance and I need photos. I am looking for photos of dancers....all styles(not just ME dance styles ALL dance), genders, heights, weights, ethnicities, and ages. I am looking for the variety of photos too...action shots, posed shot, group shots, solo shots, rehearsal shots, preparation shots....etc.

Kismet - April 12th in Ft. Worth (Arlington)

A change in venue just for this one time due to unavailability of the Fifth Avenue Arts location. This hasn't been put on the main Kismetdance.org page, but it should be up there very soon.

So you'll have to drive a little further east from FW . . . or not so far if you are coming from Dallas.

What a great show!

Those of you who didn't make it, boy did you miss out! What a great show last night!!! My personal favorite was Rai-Rai and Renee. What a wnoderful piece you guys did! I loved it! You were so in synch with each other and it was really nice to watch.

Dancing Minds and Bodies was truly amazing. What a great piece of art. I was held transfixed as I know the others around me were too. It's so great to see the evolution of Kismet from all Middle Eastern dance to now having other dance forms coming as well. Makes me feel like belly dance is finally becoming more widely accepted as the art form it is!

Seeing Obi and Nari together made me get all nostaligic because I remember seeing them when they first started together some time ago. Always nice to see you ladies!!!

There were countless other great acts. If ya'll missed this show you really missed out!

Raks Halim will be our guest troupe performers as well as 15 great acts of international dance entertainment from student performers to top professionals from the DFW area. Show up early because we will have live music both before the show and at intermission. Make sure to bring extra cash and/or your checkbook so that you can do a little shopping while you're jamming to the music! We have raffle items to give away, and 4 Wench Productions will be providing concessions up in the balcony.

Vendors this month include:
Chris' Creative Designs is back and you can visit her down on the floor this time
Tribal Evolution will be on the floor as well
Up in the balcony, make sure to visit Aminah's Charms
4 Wench Productions will also be selling raffle tickets to be a tribal dancer for a day
The Kismet merchandise table, along with the DVDs from the previous shows, will be up in the balcony this month

This multi-level workshop will outline two tribal fusion combinations emphasizing technique and isolation. The first
combination will incorporate the building blocks of UNMATA's modern bellydance style. The second combination will focus primarily on the Hula Fusion nuance.Each movement will be outlined within a tribal cueing system so that it may be added to any troupe's choreography or tribal vocabulary. Amy will describe and drill each individual movement,then fasten them together into an accessible tribal combo that will be practiced in useful group and duet formations.

Amy's Art of Overlay is at the heart of this intermediate toadvanced bellydance workshop aimed to add expressive layers and distinction to your dance style. Although controlled simultaneous movement is a complex idea, this class provides a simple approach certain to bring impressive results.Beginning with a thorough breakdown of basic isolation technique, Amy will expand such elements as core strength and relaxed tension, and then demonstrate helpful exercises that are necessary to develop an awareness needed to isolate key muscle groups. Then she will teach and drill an isolation combo that incorporates the artistic flare unique to Amy Sigil and UNMATA.

IMPORTANT - Please read if you are planning on attending the NTMEDA workshop this weekend

In the words of Tribe – DONUT Freak Out!

We have encountered a small hiccup in our plans for this weekend’s workshop, but our NTMEDA board has dutifully fixed the problem!

There was a conflict (double booking) that was just realized by the Hurst Rec. Center. We have found an alternate location that may be more central for many of our members.

The times of the workshops are NOT changing, the classes offered are NOT changing and the instructors are NOT changing. The only thing that is changing is the venue.

All activities will now be located at the Grapevine Community Activities Center (1175 Municipal Way in grapevine). This location is just off of Main Street, directly behind the Grapevine Convention Center (where Yaa Halla Y'all is held). Same side of the road, same color brick, just a few buildings north of the Convention Center.

You can zoom in and out from here to find your way. It is located just off of 114 and 121 – SUPER convenient from many areas!

New Gallery tryout

I am in the process of changing the gallery software that I use.

I have heard the complaints about the current one and have been looking for a solution that is
1) easy to navigate and to find YOUR images (after all there are over 5500 Kismet images alone on the site)
2) fast
3) allows you to take a better look at the images
4) a MUCH better ordering system.

I think that I have found something

I would like y'all to take a look at the new system and tell me what you think
it is located at http://www.imagefusionstudio.com/sf_trial/

It is not fully configured yet as I am still learning the ins and outs of the application.

One thing to note ... when the page opens click on view gallery on the lower left hand site to open the navigation window.
ALSO the search function is there and many dancer names are already included in the search so if you were in the last two Kismet shows try searching for images (click on the search button) by your name.

Please leave me feedback on what you think. If this looks good I will bring on line the full version.

Board Position Available

Carla, our fabulous Secretary, is moving in May- we are very sad to see her go, but proud of the choices she is making and wish her the very best in her endeavors.
As such, Kismet is looking for applicants for the Secretarial position. This person will work with the Dallas board, and will need to be able to attend the Dallas Events.

Please email me with any questions about the position or letters of interest in the position. The deadline for letters of interest is Feb. 29th.

Secretary:

*Takes notes from meeting, posts them to all board members. In charge of providing all non-advertising written materials. Dancer check in cards, waivers, dancer etiquette sheets- etc etc

Goals: to have notes from meeting posted to all board members with in 5 days.

Dancer Check In:

*Pre Event: answers questions/requested from performers about performances,
* Event: set up and tear down of dancer dressing rooms, ice down water, etc. checks in dancers, arranges dancer line up, works with DJ to insure CD return to performers.

Goals: to have line up done 10 min.s before the hour

Vendors:

A video question

In September I ordered the DVD for the July 28th Dallas Kismet show and I still haven't received it. Does anyone know the usual turn-around time on these DVD's? Two months seems like a long time to me especially when the show was almost four months ago. I sent a couple of emails through the website and didn't get any reply. Can anyone help?

A Sad Loss to the Dance Community

The President of NTMEDA has been contacted by a representative of the Asad family to share some important information with the dance community. Ahmad and Dee Dee Asad were in Montreal Canada hosting Dina in a seminar and show this past weekend. The family knows that the community loves them and is concerned by what they may have heard. At this time, questions from the community are difficult for the family to answer so they want you to know what happened.

At the Saturday night show, after the Dina performance, Ahmad got on stage and made an announcement about how happy he was to bring Dina to Canada, where she had never been before. Ahmad then said something he had never said on stage before. He told his wife that he loved her, that he appreciated all her hard work and that she “makes everything happen.” He then went up to their room where he suffered a massive heart attack and subsequently passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2007. Ahmad Asad was buried on November 5, 2007, according to his Islamic faith, in Montreal. Dee Dee’s sister and her husband were with her in Montreal and Dee Dee’s sister will accompany her back to Dallas.

The family has requested that there be no phone calls at this time. Cards and e-mails are most appreciated. Cards may be sent to 321 Valley Cove Drive Garland, TX 75043 and e-mails may be sent to sales@littleegypt.com.

Little Egypt and the Asad family are a major presence in our community and the family understands that the community cares for them and will want to pay their respects. They are very appreciative of your concern at this time. A memorial service will be held for family, friends and the dance community when the Asad family returns to the Dallas area. We will keep you informed regarding the memorial once the details are in place.

Our first annual board meeting was a busy one! Lots of changes coming up for Kismet Stage Events this year.

First, I would like to address an oversight at our last show. I forgot to thank a woman who puts in a huge amount of unseen hours making changes, re-arranges and getting general chaos to not only look fantastic, but also be user friendly. New Board Position Available

Kismet Board Position Available

Kismet is sad to announce that our Secretary, Tisch, has resigned from her position. Her humor and insight will be sorely missed by the Kismet board, but we hope not at the Kismet events!

As such, Kismet Stage Events is accepting applications for the position of Secretary. if you would like more information on being be a part of the fabulous team that produces great events, please email Kismet at Kismetdance dot org for a job description. We will accept applications thru the month of July.

Diffusion 2008!

Auditions for Diffusion 2008.

Diffusion is the show for experimental, on the edge cultural dance. Hosted by Visions In Dance, the show will feature dancers from all over the dance community. Diffusion is where a dancer can come to express themselves, their story, and their dance with out fear. The performance will be Saturday, January 19th 2008.

VHS/ DVD submissions will be accepted untill October 31st 2007.

Live Auditions will be held September 30 th and October 21st 2007. Location TBA (will be in Dallas area) To schedual an audition contact diffusion.dance@gmail.com

Time limits: Solos up to 4 minutes 30 seconds. Duests up to 6 minutes. Trios up to 7 minutes. Troupes up to 9 minutes.

This Saturday is the day! Our guest troupe is the Johara Dance Ensemble. The word 'Johara' in Arabic means Gem or Jewel. The group currently consists of seven lovely Jewels. All are talented, beautiful ladies with unique styles and experiences. We also have many other performers that night, from all over the metroplex.
If the dancing is not enough to lure you out- www.LittleEgypt.com had donated a full WEEKEND PASS to their Cairo Nights event in August to the raffle that evening!

So we hope to see you Saturday night at 7pm!

DANCERS DON’T FORGET:

We need volunteers to come out and help us with set up and tear down. If you can make set up, you get in FREE to that evenings event, listed in the program (if you let us know by Wednesday), AND choice seating!

It's the party that never ends! After a full and crazy weekend with Fifi Abdo, I've organized a hafla at Al Amir for Sunday night! If you're inspired and burning with belly dance fever after the weekend, join us!

There is no cover charge, please join us for dinner, drinks, and DANCING! Several dancers in from out of town as well as a few from the Metroplex will be gracing the Al Amir stage. So far, our lineup is:

That’s right- thanks to the volunteer efforts of dancers Nadriah Johara and Rivkah- there is a Kismet Stage Event in Forth Worth. Our first event will be July 7th at 8pm at the Arts Fifth Avenue. How exciting is that!? The same rules will apply:
Family Friendly Routine,

We hope to draw the same wonderful audience that our Dallas event is famous for. Dancers- please see the update below especially for you!

IMPORTANT DANCER ANNOUNCEMENT:
DANCERS- THERE IS A NEW PROCESS TO DANCER CHECK IN- PLEASE READ:
CHECK IN TIME IS FROM 6PM-6:30PM FOR THE DALLAS EVENT
CHECK IN TIME IS FROM 7PM-7:30PM FOR THE FORT WORTH EVENT

We have a dream… a dream of a Kismet Event that starts ON TIME. To make that dream possible, we are going to be stricter on sign in times. We have a half hour window for you to check in for that evening performance, if you are not there or have not called in a head of time to warn the event you are planning on being there but are running late, ( we know stuff happens sometimes) you will not be put on that evenings list to perform. We feel this will allow us to get everything organized, not only so we can start our event on time, but so dancers will know the line up more than 30 seconds before the show starts. (Or in some cases, as the show is starting.)
So again: You will have had to sign in or called a head at least a half hour before the event starts.

Kismet Dallas is VERY excited that www.littleegypt.com has donated a weekend pass to their Cario Nights Workshops to our May 26th event, as well as a pass to Khadija and one workshop for Tamra-Henna. It’s a great reason to come on out to our event, top it off with our guest troupe, the Nadirah Johara Ensemble, dancers from all over the metroplex, and you’ve got a great evening of dance entertainment!

The next Kismet Dallas event will be July 28th, featuring Crescent Moon Studios!

So, come on out and SHARE YOUR DANCE!

Image Fusion Studio

Does anyone have any contact with Image Fusion studio? The reason why I'm asking is because I placed an order with them June 20th and I'm yet to receive my photos.

I e-mailed him at the beginning of July and he said that he was mailing my photos on the 10th. It's now the end of the month and several of my e-mails have gone unanswered and my pictures are yet to arrive.

I'm really getting distressed and before I get completely angry I wanted to be sure that there wasnt' some bigger reason like maybe something horrid had happened.

Anyone know?

There are still spaces available for the workshop with Mardi Love of The Indigo. The event will be at the current Kismet location (Plaza Arts Center in Carrollton). The workshop runs from 12:30-5 P.M. both Sat and Sun and we will accept cash or check at the door.

There will be an amazing show on Sat. night (doors open at 7:30) and tickets can be purchased at the door for $15 (cash only please).

Kismet in March is going to be a great way to bounce in to Spring! Not only will the fabulous Hareem Fitna be our guest troupe, not only will several dancers from all over the metro-plex be performing, we will also have- thanks to several wonderful donors- a veritable plethora of workshops and classes to give away in the evenings raffle!
