I tried to e-mail this but got a daemon failure notice so I will post it.
Greetings I have been receiving a few requests for my band to play for dancers at your venue. I am wondering what your position and or rules are for this type of show.
Thanks

Re: dancers wanting live music
Thu, January 29, 2009 - 8:31 AMnot sure why you are getting the notice:
kismet@kismetdance.org
should work peachy..
Live music is welcome at Kismet, just keep in mind the performances need to be 6 min.s or less. I realize that live music tends to be more flexible than a cd, so perhaps a song that usually plays 5 mins? Then that would give yourselves breathing room.
Let me know if you have any other concerns. -

Re: dancers wanting live music
Thu, January 29, 2009 - 9:31 AMI think the main question, and tell me if I am wrong Sean, is about the sound equipment that we use sense we have mics and a keyboard. We understand that it takes time to take it down and/or move off the stage. Would there be a specific set up for the show that would allow us the dancers and you to be able to lessen the time it takes for this?
Maybe have live music for first section and we can remove the equipment during intermission, or maybe have it as last section. We set up during intermission before and then take down after last performance. Just some thoughts, tell me if I am way off base here Sean. -

Re: dancers wanting live music
Thu, January 29, 2009 - 10:04 AMAs far as setting up and tearing down for a performer, we can/have worked around the set up time- One of the times was with W&F and we had y'all set up before the show, I did a brief introduction- then y'all and TH performed- then I went in to the longer introduction of the show while you tore down. (for example)
- is that the concern? We can work around it, just fine. -

Thu, January 29, 2009 - 10:21 AMThat all sounds good maybe some small stop watch on the keyboard Matt? -

Re: dancers wanting live music
Thu, January 29, 2009 - 10:28 AMgreat! glad we've got it worked out :) If you have more than one performer dancing with you- make sure the let us know when they sign up- so we can make sure to set up the line up accordingly.
Y'all are joining us at the Dallas March event, correct?

Re: dancers wanting live music
Thu, January 29, 2009 - 10:29 AMyeah as I recall that wasn't like a crazy long tear down time.
I think you might have the inverse problem. All of us will want a live performer and you'll wind up doing the whole show. Punishing I know! ;) -

Re: dancers wanting live music
Thu, January 29, 2009 - 10:36 AMnothing in the world wrong with that! (as long as each performer is under 6 mins) If anything I'd be tickled pink! We'll make sure to have buckets of ice for the musicians to put their hands in to after the show :) -

Re: dancers wanting live music
Thu, January 29, 2009 - 11:03 AMIt would be more beneficial to the band to play for more than one dancer a show. It typically takes me 45 minutes to set up the gear and then play for 6 minutes. Seems a little silly really. I know that the bands house dancer is wanting to do a Kismet sometime soon and we will be there to play for her. But again it would be nice to be able to play for more than one.

Re: dancers wanting live music
Thu, January 29, 2009 - 11:07 AMhere's to hoping that you get a plethora of performers who want the opportunity to dance to your music.
Belly up to the bar ladies! here's your chance! :) -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: dancers wanting live music
Thu, January 29, 2009 - 11:38 AMhaha, I'd be down for that if I ever had time in my schedule to do it! We're really lucky to have a band willing to play for us. We all complained for so long there was no band to dance to, glad to see that now there is and people are taking advantage.
But you know, horse show season starts next month so instead of getting home at 4 am, I'm leaving for a show at that time! -

Re: dancers wanting live music
Thu, January 29, 2009 - 7:11 PMAs the director for the Dallas show, I think the best solution would be for your group to get one of the 20-30 minute guest troupe slots. That way you would have time to set up and more time to play so you could have 2-4 dancers do a longer set and you wouldn't have to worry so much about the time constraint of regular, 6-minute slots. -
