Re: Wind & Fingers
Sat, August 2, 2008 - 6:25 AMI know when we play pre-show there are never any photos. Unless a family member or friends take them. People are getting seated and preparing for their performance, visiting with friends. I was very thrilled to see you have a sound system so that you were heard over the din of all the activity going on in the auditorium. I was able to enjoy your performance.
Love Ya

Sat, August 2, 2008 - 7:15 AMYes I didnt figure on Image Fusion or the other guy who takes pictures but you never know if someone took a couple. Thanks on the sound system, after beating my hands to death for years at scraby I was ready to take it easy and let the amp do the work.

Sat, August 2, 2008 - 9:46 AMSorry I missed Photographing the group.
In the future it may be a good idea to bring up stage lighting for the pre-show performers.
I normally do not shoot flash at Kismet so without stage lighting I wouldn't be able to get usuable images.

Sat, August 2, 2008 - 3:37 PMYes, it is, Cindy. I met a guy today that can play the Ud and the cumbus. Hopefully, we can get something going with him. Next Kismet, I'll have my riq. Took me long enough to get it. I can do so much more with it. -

Sun, August 3, 2008 - 9:12 AMLet's hear it for live music...Woooohoooo! Been to long a'com'n to this area. Sounds like we need a local DFW chapter for ME musicians...hint, hint, Todd. -

Sun, August 3, 2008 - 5:27 PMDo we want one? Would we benefit from one? Anyone else out there have a comment? -

Re: Wind & Fingers
Sun, August 3, 2008 - 6:55 PMI think it may be a positive move to have a musician join with the NTMEDA board and bring some musician perspective to us. Why separate the community more? Join together and make NTMEDA better for the communiity.
I know that I try to incorporate music articles and themes into Papyrus....many I have had to write myself....but we could benefit from the input.
Anyone? -

Re: Wind & Fingers
Sun, August 3, 2008 - 10:36 PMI like this idea, although I understand if the musicians also want to have their own association focusing on music/musicians.

Re: Wind & Fingers
Mon, August 4, 2008 - 2:54 AMHmm I agree with Yeli since I already paid dues to NTMEDA this year. Also I think a separate organization could possibly create more tensions between dancers and musicians. As for who not sure I would say not me I am too brash and or black and white for most people. I do not subscribe to political correctness or any of that kind of mindset. I also dont have any intrest in anything else, it has to be middle eastern instruments and music. Rhythyms from South American no matter how interesting or complex are not middle eastern.

Re: Wind & Fingers
Mon, August 4, 2008 - 5:24 AMI tend to agree with everything Sean says.
LOL!
Except that I do have an interest in other than Middle Eastern rhythms, though I don't think I'd show up at a Souhail seminar wanting to know how to play the mamba. And a raqs sharqi drum solo is just that. If I come to a gathering of folks that want to play ME rhythms, I'm not going to break out in a samba.
:-)
I think that the musicians should gather together and find out who and where they are.
That shouldn't take away from the comraderie that the musicians and dancers should have, and that I've taken a special interest in fostering.
Sean, Cindy, Deede, Allen, Belinda and me, are the only Dallas musicians I know that post on tribe, at all. Ken Kenisic in Houston has a profile and a tribe here, but he doesn't post very often. Janine (sp?) plays and dances with Doumsmack, but she mostly posts as a dancer, when she does.
I'd like to get a list of the Dallas/Ft. Worth ME muscians, just to see who's out there. -

Re: Wind & Fingers
Mon, August 4, 2008 - 3:19 PMBelinda and I are trying to bring the musician community together and we are planning some things that are really exciting. That will be geared primarily towards musicians and dancers who want dance to live music. If anyone else is interested send me a private message. I have been on the phone to several other musicians today and I know there is interest in the ideas that Belinda and I are kicking around.
Yeli, I would also like to talk to you ref to a little more involvement to bring the musician and dancer community together. I would like to see it happen through NTMEDA and if you will contact me privately I think there will be a turn around. I don't mean to sound ugly or bi**hy but there is alot of lip service to using live music but you rarely see it. The musicians are there...Unfortunately lots of musicians who are affiliated with studios are treated like stepchildren even at their own studios. So lets go...... -

Re: Wind & Fingers
Thu, August 7, 2008 - 12:25 PMThis is great, and very exciting! This is what I had dreamed would happen, that the musicians and dancers of North Texas would come together to create something phenomenal. I'm so glad to see I wasn't the only person with this dream. :)
